The Washington Nationals put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning, but it wouldn’t prove to be enough as the Cleveland Guardians downed the Nationals 6-4 on Jackie Robinson Day Saturday afternoon in front of 25,000 at Nats Park.
Nationals’ starting pitcher Chad Kuhl gave up five earned runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.
The game started promisingly for the Nats with RBI hits by Joey Meneses, Jeimer Candelario and Keibert Ruiz in the first inning.
