For much of the game, the Washington Capitals dominated play and were having their way with the visiting New Jersey Devils. But the Devils kept chipping away, tied it in regulation and then rookie Luke Hughes netted his first NHL goal in the overtime period to give the Devils the 4-3 victory.

Captain Alex Ovechkin returned after missing the three previous games, but did not score, leaving him at 822 career goals, 73 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record.
