Mason Comeback Falls Short, Dayton Prevails 74-65

The George Mason men’s basketball team fell behind early in their game against Dayton Saturday afternoon, mounted a big comeback but ultimately fell short to the Flyers losing 74-65 at UD Arena in Atlantic 10 conference play.

Led by strong shooting, the Flyers came out the gate strong and took an 18-point lead late in the first half. Led by some tough defense and renewed offense, Mason finished the half strong and went into the break down only nine, 38-29.

In the second half the Patriots picked up right where they left off and continued to close the gap with the Flyers, eventually going up by five with just under eight minutes to play in the game.

Dayton went on a bit of a run and the two teams found themselves tied at 63 with 2:41 left to play. However Dayton closed the game with a 12-2 run to come away with the victory.

Freshman Tyler Kolek led Mason with 16 points, while three other Patriots also posted double figures – Jordan Miller with 15, and A.J. Wilson and Javon Greene with 13 points each.

Mason falls to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in A-10 conference play. Their next scheduled matchup is against VCU at home on Wednesday.
