Mason Women Easily Handle Delaware State 69-46
The George Mason women wrapped up their non-conference play on Monday night with a relatively easy 69-46 victory over Delaware State at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax.
It was the first matchup of the two teams in six years, a game that set an EagleBank Arena record for points scored with the Patriots winning 110-91.
Monday night’s game was a much lower scoring affair, but the result was the same with the Patriots coming away with the victory.
Mason led from wire to wire in this game, and the result was never seriously in doubt, holding a 19-point lead at halftime before pulling away with the 23 point victory.
The victory raised the Patriots’ record to 3-4 on the season as they enter into conference play.
Mason’s offense was widely distributed as nine different players scored with three in double figures. Redshirt freshman Rachel Balzer led the way for the Patriots pumping in four three-pointers in a career-best 16 point performance.
Senior Markia Korpinen, playing in her 100th career game celebrated in style as she had her second career double-double, putting in 11 points and pulling down 12 boards.
Junior Devyn Wilson was the third Patriot to post double figures as she threw in 11 points.
Mason is back in action on New Year’s day as they travel up to the Bronx, N.Y. to take on conference opponent Fordham.
