George Mason Women Down Navy 72-68 in Home Opener

The George Mason University women’s basketball team defeated a tenacious Navy team 72-68 Sunday afternoon at EagleBank Arena in the 2020-2021 home opener for the Patriots.

Mason was coming off a season opening loss on Wednesday at the hands of Pitt 72-57.

Sunday’s game was a back and forth affair and Mason found themselves down by 10 with less than 9 minutes remaining in the second half. At that point Mason went on a tear and outscored Navy 31-17 to secure the win.

Sophmore Jazymn Doster led the way for the Patriots, scoring a career-high 22 points, while pulling down eight rebounds and blocking 4 shots. Four others were in double figures for Mason – Daijeh Jefferson threw in 12 points while Taylor Jameson contributed 11 and Marika Korpinen and Jordan Wakefield each added 10.

Mason is back in action Tuesday night for a home matchup against Longwood.
