Mystics, WNBA Return to Action; Fall to Mercury 94-72

After an emotional week including two days of postponed games, the Washington Mystics were playing well and held an eight point halftime lead against the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night, and it looked like they were on their way to their 5th win of the season.

However led by Skylar Diggins-Smith’s 21 second-half points, the Mercury rallied and outscored the Mystics by 30 points, coming away with a 94-72 victory at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

For the Mystics, Leilani Mitchell scored a season-high 17 points while also dishing out five assists while Tianna Hawkins scored 13 points off the bench, making it her third consecutive game of 10+ points.

The Mystics had a strong defensive effort as they forced the Mercury into 17 turnovers.

The loss drops the Mystics to 4-10 on the season. Next up are the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon.
