Sprit, NWSL Set to Resume Play Next Week

The National Women’s Soccer League announced on Tuesday that they would begin a limited schedule of games beginning next week. In this fall schedule the league’s 9 teams would be broken down into three regional pods consisting of three teams each. Each team would play a total of four games including two home matches.

The schedule has not been finalized but it is expected that Spirit will kick off the fall schedule with a home match against Sky Blue FC on September. A week later the Spirit will host the Chicago stars. Venues for the Spirit home matches have not been announced but it has been reported that the team is in discussions with D.C. United about using Segra Field in Leesburg. If the team were to utilize Segra Field, under Virginia guidelines crowds of up to 1,000 would be permitted.
