The Dayton Flyers traveled to Fairfax on Tuesday evening with their 16 game winning streak on the line to take on George Mason in an Atlantic 10 matchup. The game was a back-and-forth affair all night and the Flyers barely managed to escape with their streak still intact as they downed the Patriots 62-55 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at EagleBank Arena.
The Flyers raised their record to 26-2 overall and a perfect 15-0 in Atlantic 10 conference play. They are ranked at No. 4 in the AP poll.
Mason trailed Dayton by only two points as the game approached its final minute but the Flyers were able to score the game’s last five points to put the game away.
Flyers standout sophomore Obi Toppin led all scorers with 19 points while also pulling down 7 rebounds.
For the Patriots AJ Wilson led the way with 18 points while Jordan Miller contributed a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
