DeMatha Edges Past PVI In Classic WCAC Matchup 62-60

In a matchup of two of the best high school basketball teams in the country, DeMatha Catholic defeated visiting Paul VI 62-60 on Tuesday evening in front of a packed house at the Morgan and Kathy Wootten Gymnasium.

In the latest ESPN Top-25 High School Basketball rankings released January 27th, both teams were featured in the top-10 – DeMatha at #4 while PVI was ranked at #9. In the lastest Washington Post rankings of local teams, DeMatha held the top spot while PVI was right behind at #2.

Even with such high expectations the game did not disappoint.

It was a back and forth affair the entire evening, thrilling the sold-out, standing room only crowd.

Jordan Hawkins and Michigan commit Hunter Dickinson led the way for the Stags with 17 points each, while Will Reynolds contributed 9 and Earl Timberlake threw in 6.

For PVI Doug McDaniel led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Duke commit Jeremy Roach with 16 and Trevor Keels who contributed 13.
