Spirit Fall to Thorns 3-1 in front of 21,000
The league-leading Portland Thorns FC downed the visiting Washington Spirit 3-1 on Saturday evening in front of almost 21,000 fans at Providence Park.
Goals by Hayley Raso, Emily Sonnett an Christine Sinclair led the way for the Thorns as they raised their record to 9-3-6 with 33 points.
The Spirit’s lone goal came in the 68th minute when captain Andi Sullivan boomed a shot from at the top of the 18-yard box which curled into the upper-right corner of the goal, past Thorns keeper Adrianna Franch.
The loss dropped the Spirit to 6-7-3 with 21 points.
