Castellanos’ Two Late Goals Lead NYCFC To 3-2 Victory Over Houston

Valentin Castellanos entered the game in the 58th minute and served as the catalyst for NYCFC’s dramatic come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Houston Dynamo Thursday evening in front of 18,000 fans at Yankee Stadium.

Castellanos put two balls into the net in the game’s waning minutes to lead the Boys in Blue to victory. Castellanos’ first goal came in the 83rd minute as he headed a Keaton Parks cross into the back of the net to even the score at 2-2. In the match’s 93rd minute, Castellanos buried his own rebound into the net past Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric , giving City the 3-2 victory.

The Dynamo found themselves shorthanded for the majority of the match, as Romall Quioto was given a red card in the 29th minute for elbowing Ronald Matarrita in the head.

NYCFC broke through first as Alexandru Mitrita fired one into the net from close range in the 16th minute to give City a 1-0 lead. The Dynamo came back ten minutes later as Houston midfielder Juan David Cabezas put home a a cross from Tommy McNamara in the 26th minute to even the score at one.

The match featured an 80 minute weather delay which led to an extended halftime.

The victory lifts NYCFC to 10-4-8, 38 points on the season and puts them in third place in the MLS Eastern Conference, one point behind Atlanta and four points behind league-leading Philadelphia.
