Spirit Fall to Defending Champion Courage 1-0

The Washington Spirit fell to the NWSL defending champions North Carolina Courage 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in front of 4,300 fans at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.

The game’s lone goal was scored by Debinha in the match’s 64th minute.

The Spirit played the majority of the match one player down as Paige Nielsen was issued a red card in the 24th minute for a foul on a North Carolina attacker.

The loss drops the Spirit’s record to 6-5-3 and 21 points on the season, seven points behind league leading North Carolina.

The Spirit were kept in the game on multiple occasions by goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe who made a number of key saves.
