Spirit Dominate Play, Sweep Season Series with SkyBlue With 1-0 Win
The Washington Spirit travelled up to Piscataway, N.J. for a mid-week matchup with Sky Blue FC and came away with a convincing 1-0 victory on Wednesday evening in front of a crowd of 5,000, the second largest crowd in Sky Blue FC history.
After a scoreless first-half, the Spirit broke through early in the second half to score the match’s only goal. In the 54th minute Ashley Hatch took a pass from midfield, sprinted past two defenders and put the ball past Sky Blue goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. It was Hatch’s fourth goal of the season, tying her with Jordan DiBiasi for the team lead.
The Spirit dominated play throughout the game – they took 17 shots to Sky Blue’s 6, their passing accuracy was 82.1% to Sky Blue FC’s 67% and they possessed the ball for 63.8% of the time.
