For the second year in a row, Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne was named captain of the WNBA Eastern Conference All-Stars in the game set to be played Saturday July 27th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas.
Delle Donne was one of 10 players selected by fans, current WNBA players and media to start in the All-Star game. Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson was named captain of the West squad.
Joining Delle Donne and Wilson in the backcourt are Las Vegas’ Cambage, Phoenix Mercury’s Brittney Griner, Seattle Storm’s Natasha Howard, Connecticut Sun’s Jonquel Jones. Backcourt starters are L.A. Sparts’ Chelsea Gray, Seattle’s Jewell Loyd, Las Vegas’ Kayla McBride and NY Liberty’s Kia Nurse.
All 10 starters were selected by fans, current WNBA players and media. Delle Donne and Wilson were named captains thanks to finishing with the most amount of fans votes. As part of their captain’s duties, they will draft the remaining 12 All-Star players from the pool of players voted as starters and reserves by the league’s head coaches.
