Spirit Snap Unbeaten Streak, Fall to Courage 2-1

The Washington Spirit snapped their seven game unbeaten streak as they fell to the North Carolina Courage 2-1 on Saturday night in front of 3,400 fans at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
The loss drops the Spirit to 4-2-4, 16 points on the season and into second place in the NWSL, one point behind Portland Thorns FC who took over first place with their win in Week 11.
The game marked the return for players on both sides following their time with national teams during the Women’s World Cup. For the Spirit, Amy Harrison, Chloe Logarzo and Cheyna Matthews returned while the Courage welcomed back Debinha and Abby Erceg. Debinha scored the game’s first goal as she put in the rebound of her own penalty kick attempt during stoppage time at the end of the first half.
The Courage took a 2-0 lead early in the second half before Washington’s Crystal Thomas put on in the net off a header in the 82nd minute to pull the Spirit within one.
