Elena Delle Donne scored 19 points and pulled down 10 boards to lead the Washington Mystics to a stunning 102-59 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed house at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
The game marked the fifth straight win for the Mystics and it also marked one of the worst defeats in WNBA history.
Perhaps inspired by their two previous defeats at the hands of the Sun this season, the Mystics came out strong right out of the gate, with Delle Donne scoring 4 quick points en route to a quick 9-0 lead. The first quarter ended with Washington leading 29-15 and from there the rout was on.
The Mystics had a total of six players in double figures. Starters Ariel Atkins put in 15 and Kristi Toliver added 14 while coming off the bench Aerial Powers had 13, Tianna Hawkins put in 12 and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough contributed 11.
The victory vaults the Mystics into first place, a half-game ahead of the Sun.
