NYCFC Extends Unbeaten Streak, Gets By Union 4-2
Led by two goals each by Maximiliano Moralez and Valentin Castellanos, NYCFC extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games as they beat the Philadelphia Union 4-2 Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.
With the victory, NYCFC moves to 6-1-8, 26 points on the season and moved to within six points of Eastern Conference leading Philadelphia.
A bit of NYCFC history was made during the match as Moralez’ two goals came on converted penalty kicks making him the first player in team history to score two penalty kicks in a game.
Moralez’ two goals accounted for all of NYCFC’s scoring until the 71st minute when Castellanos broke a 2-2 tie by converting a pass from Moralez past a diving Union goalkeeper Matt Freese. Castellanos then added one seven minutes later, once again converting a pass from Moralez to score the game’s final goal.
With two goals and two assists, Moralez had a four-point night, making it his second straight four-point game and sixth straight game with a point.
