Griner, Bonner Lead Mercury Over Fever 94-87
Led by Brittney Griner and DeWanna Bonner, the visiting Phoenix Mercury downed the Indiana Fever 94-87 in front of over 3,330 fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Griner led the way for the Mercury with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Bonner contributed 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Also scoring in double figures for the Mercury were Leilani Mitchell with 17 and Briann January with 16.
The Mercury came out of the gate strong and took a 53-28 lead into the half. Phoenix continued to dominate play throughout the third quarter and took a 27 point lead as the quarter expired. But in the fourth quarter the Fever rallied back and cut the deficit to seven points. However that’s as close as they would get and the Mercury was able to hold on for the victory.
Kelsey Mitchell led the way for the Fever with 26 points while Kennedy Burke put in 18 and Tiffany Mitchell contributed 17.
