Charles, Hartley Lead Liberty To First Win of Season, Beat Las Vegas 88-78
Led by a combined 38 points by Tina Charles and Bria Hartley, the New York Liberty ended their 17-game losing streak with a 88-78 win over the visiting Las Vegas Aces in front of over 1,400 fans at the Westchester County Center.
The Liberty lost the last 13 games of last season and was winless this season until Sunday afternoon’s victory.
New York built a 16 point lead early in the third quarter but Las Vegas rallied to bring it down to 4 points early in the fourth quarter. The Liberty took charge by scoring seven straight points to bring their lead to 81-70 with just over 4 minutes remaining.
Besides Charles and Hartley, Kia Nurse was the other Liberty player in double figures with 15 points. On the boards Amanda Zahul pulled down 9 rebounds while Reshanda Gray and Charles each pulled down 8.
Kayla McBride led the Aces with 25 points while Liz Cambage contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds.
