MLS: LAFC Down Portland in 3-2 Thriller
LAFC improved their MLS-best record to 11-1-4 and 37 points with a 3-2 victory over the Portland Timbers on Saturday, spoiling the Timbers’ debut in their newly refurbished home Providence Park.
Carlos Vela scored early and Diego Rossi added another first-half goal to give LAFC a 2-0 halftime lead. However, Portland struck quickly in the second half as Cristhian Paredes scored from point-blank range just 45 seconds into the half. Latif Blessing’s goal in the 54th minute once again gave LAFC a two goal cushion, but Brian Fernandez’ bicycle-kick goal in the 84th minute brought the Timbers back to within one.
LAFC’s victory extended their unbeaten streak to eight games and their 37 points puts them 9 points ahead of second place LA Galaxy in the Western Conference.
