Lynx Down Storm 72-61
Led by Odyssey Sims’ 15 points the Minnesota Lynx downed the defending champion Seattle Storm 72-61 on Wednesday night in front of just over 8,000 fans at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
This was a matchup of two traditional WNBA powerhouses as the two teams have combined to win six of the last nine WNBA championships. However both squads have a different look this year as some of their biggest stars were not on the floor for this matchup due to either injury (Seattle’s Sue Bird and Brenna Stewart), retirement (Minnesota’s Lindsay Whalen) or sabbatical (Minnesota’s Maya Moore).
Damiris Dantas contributed 13 points for the Lynx while Sylvia Fowles was a force on the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds. Natasha Howard led the way for the Storm with 18 points while Jewell Loyd contributed 13 in the losing effort.
The win lifts the Lynx to 2-0 while the loss moves Seattle to 1-1 on the season
