WNBA: Rookie’s Buzzer Beater Leads Fever Over Liberty
Rookie Teaira McCowan converted a pass from Candice Dupree and laid it in as time expired Friday night to lead the visiting Indiana Fever to an 81-80 victory over the New York Liberty in the season opener for both teams.
The 4th quarter was a frenzy of lead changes and ties. Tina Charle looked to have potentially put the game away when she scored with seven seconds to go to put the Liberty ahead 80-79 but then McCowan’s reverse layup at the buzzer ended things on a very positive note for the Fever.
Tiffany Mitchell led Indiana with a career high 22 points while McCowan, the third overall pick in the WNBA Draft, added 11 points and six rebounds.
Charles led the Liberty with 32 points and 12 rebounds.
