Cathy Engelbert Named WNBA Commissioner

Cathy Engelbert, who is the current CEO of professional services firm Deloitte, has been appointed Commissioner of the WNBA it was announced Wednesday by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Engelbert will join the WNBA on July 17th, once her term as CEO with Deloitte concludes and will report to Silver.

As CEO of Deloitte, Engelbert led an organization of over 100,000 people and drove large transformation and growth. She was also seen as a leader in promoting people-first programs within the company.

Engelbert has a rich basketball history, captaining the Lehigh University basketball team as a senior, where she played for Hall of Famer Muffett McGraw. Her father also played for a famed Hall of Fame coach, playing for Jack Ramsay at Saint Joseph’s University and was also drafted in 1957 by the Detroit Pistons.
